Carlos Sainz Seals Sensational Victory in Australian Grand Prix
Carlos Sainz of Ferrari clinched a stunning win at the Australian Grand Prix, capitalizing on technical issues faced by Max Verstappen early in the race, leading to the reigning world champion’s retirement.
Verstappen, aiming for his 10th consecutive victory, faced challenges right from the start. Despite initially holding onto his pole position advantage, he encountered problems with his car’s brakes on the second lap. Seizing the opportunity, Sainz overtook him and surged into the lead.
As Verstappen’s issues worsened, he eventually retired from the race, allowing Sainz to maintain his lead and secure his third Formula 1 victory. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, secured second place, marking Ferrari’s first one-two finish since the beginning of the 2022 season.
Lando Norris of McLaren claimed the final podium spot, securing his first podium finish of the season. Home favorite Oscar Piastri finished fourth after an eventful race, which saw George Russell crashing out late in the race while battling for position.
